Description: In early 2004, Bryan Robertson embarked on assembling a small dedicated team with highly acclaimed 5th generation winemaker, Simon Gilbert and multi award winning winemaker Leigh Eldredge together with Biagio Famularo, Wine Masters graduate from the University of Adelaide to produce the MAX V. This unique venture saw the production of a single red wine in the portfolio, using the five noble Bordeaux varieties and utilizing 100% Clare Valley fruit from various established growers. The terroir of the Clare Valley provided the perfect balance of altitude and micro climates which has earnt the region major success at the international level with the Clare Valley producing only 3% of Australia's total grape crush but winning over 20% of all the Australian wine awards. The MAX V became the first wine in Australia to implement an innovative barrel fermenting system, called ‘Vinification Integrale’ which allows the grapes to be crushed and inserted into the barrel for the entire primary fermentation, maceration and the more usual secondary fermentation. Every vintage is approached with the same winemaking principle culture and philosophy in mind, the individual MAX V varietal parcels are matured in 19 variations of 100% new French oak barrels. Each barrel is then put through a sensory evaluation with only the top tier selected and blended prior to release. The MAX V continues to aim for optimal complexity and elegance whilst preserving its Clare Valley primary fruit purity and regional distinction. In doing so, the MAX V has been awarded 7 Gold medals and a distinguished list of highly acclaimed reviews.
